WAYNE - McCobb's Family Restaurant & Ice Cream Bar has restored a bit of forgotten local history along the banks of the Ramapo River behind their restaurant.
McCobb's has cleared 450 feet of river bank along the Ramapo River. There are benches, walkways, foot paths, and ramps down to the river, which runs directly behind the restaurant. McCobb's worked with the NJ DEP to reinstate trout stocking along this section of the river.
Once a popular destination, the river bank has long since fallen into disuse and overgrowth. Today, with the opening of McCobb's Aquatic Park, recreational use has been restored for fishing, car-top boat launching, and simply enjoying nature's beauty. Children enjoy feeding the everpresent duck population with duck feed available in the restaurant.
Access is free and visitors may park at McCobb's or the adjacent Thomas Plaza.
McCobb's Family Restaurant & Ice Cream Bar is located 100 yards east of the Pompton Falls Dam at 2391 Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne, 973-835-0858. Owned and operated by the Mamakos family since 1963, McCobb's has been serving the local community for generations.
